Hi all,
Wondering if anyone has had abdominal distention? My mother is on 4 mg Pomalyst following her second stem cell transplant in March. She is not taking dex. Just recently, she noticed that her abdomen in quite distended. No pain or breathlessness. She did lose about 20 lbs (9 kg) during her transplant, but this abdominal swelling came on suddenly, without swelling in the ankles, face, or anywhere else.
Has anyone had this experience on Pomalyst? I'm hoping it's just a side effect or sudden weight gain, and not myeloma-related.

Re: Abdominal distension while on Pomalyst
Multibilly, you are a wonder! I have an update unfortunately. Apparently Mom was waiting on some bloodwork and it indicated that her IgA has gone from the 40s last month to 1210. In the past, this has heralded an extramedullary tumor, and considering the swollen abdomen, I'm guessing this one is a whopper.

Sorry to hear this. I had forgotten that your mom already had EMD going into this. Hope the new scans reveal something other than a growing tumor.

Thanks! I have a feeling a tumor is what it is though. It's just disconcerting that her second SCT lasted only five months with maintenance chemo, while her first SCT lasted over five years without maintenance. I'm just hoping something will keep the myeloma under control for a while.

Mayo is moving fast! She will be on a clinical trial of ABT-199 and Velcade. (maybe dex? Not sure.) Her doctor said she has had excellent results from this regimen for people with the 4;14 translocation.

Berit, I am glad she decided on the clinical trial at Mayo. Now, more than ever, I will be interested in your mother's progress. Best to you all. m

Thanks!!! And I need to do some more digging with Mom. I will swear that her doctor said she had t(4;14). But I started reading and it looks like ABT-199 is for 11;14. Hmmmm....

Yes, I have noticed this also. Seeing doctor tomorrow. I thought maybe gas upset, or I should say bowel.
