In 2007, I was playing on top of dugout where I did side work for a minor league baseball team and SNAP! There went my left femur bone! I had quite a bit of bone pain prior and did nothing about it except for massage therapy. I was put in an ambulance and off the ER.
A 4 inch hole in my femur was discovered and I was diagnosed with a plasmacytoma! I was 32 years old at the time.
They put me in surgery and started radiation. Radiation did not get the results needed, so we did 4 rounds of Velcade, thalidomide, and dex. It worked and I was in remission until 2012!
In 2012, the M-spike went from a 0.02 g/dL up to a 0.08 g/dL this past July.
My oncologist seeing this gave me a life expectancy of 10-15 years before running an MRI, bone marrow biopsy, and a full skeletal survey.
He ran the reports and they all came back FREE AND CLEAR! I will live long life!
I got a second opinion and had a PET scan run where there were 2 hot spots (shoulder and L2) – no lesions, no pain.
I just finished chemo from September – February and start my auto stem cell transplant on April 12!
Thank God for second opinions!
All of the levels look great and I am hitting it hard! Can’t wait to get this transplant started!

Re: 41 years old - second go-round
Best of luck to you Mike. I am sorry that you had these issues at such a young age. Looks like you do not have M-spike driven multiple myeloma. Just wondering, do you have light chain markers or are you a nonsecretor?
Best of luck to you. Regards,

I have kappa free light chain levels ranging from 20.88 - 36.45 and a kappa-lambda ratio between 1.66 - 2.06 and an M-spike of 0.3 g/dL (3 g/L) going into stem cell transplant
Everything else in my labs look normal.
I am assuming that these are all good numbers.
