24-hr urine for bence jones vs regular urine sample

by Lillyput189 on Fri Nov 08, 2013 2:46 pm

Hi everyone,

Can someone tell me which of the above tests is more accurate? I was told by my lab that there is no 24-hour urine test for bence jones & that they only do a regular urine specimen, which must be done at 9 a.m.

Very confused. Hope someone can clear this up for me. Thanks!

Make sure you know what you are asking for. There are 24 hour urine tests that measure overall protein level in your urine and there is the Bence Jones 24 hour urine test that only measures the freelite chains.

Usually, if you are doing a 24 hour urine test, you are doing this as part of an overall set of serum and urine tests for multiple myeloma that would also include a blood serum test for Bence Jones (Freelite Chain Assay).

Here are a couple of details on the two different 24 hr urine tests from one of the major lab companies.
