Caregivers Workshop — On March 16, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will sponsor its monthly Caregivers Workshop for caregivers of cancer patients. The Road To Discovery: Emerging Therapies In Blood Cancers — The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is hosting a free informative program on clinical trials on March 18 in Eugene, OR, and Commack, NY. Dr. Craig Nichols, Medical Director of Lymphoma and Testicular Cancer Research at the Earle A. Chiles Research Institute, will speak at the Hilton Eugene & Conference Center in Eugene, OR, at noon. Dr. Philip Schulman, Chief of Medical Oncology, will speak at the Memorial Sloan-Kettering Cancer Center Commack in Commack, NY, at 6:30 p.m. Both speakers will discuss the process of drug discovery and approval for treatment, recent and ongoing advances in the treatment of blood cancers, and the possibility of clinical trials for individual treatment. A complimentary meal will be served in each program, but preregistration is required.

The Leukemia Cup Regatta – This annual boating competition has raised funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) since its inception in 1988. This year there will be 36 boating regattas. Those occurring in March include: Mobile, AL, March 13-15 at the Buccaneer Yacht Club; Mandeville, LA, March 21-22 at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club; Punta Gorda, FL, March 21-22 at the Isles Yacht Club; and New Orleans, LA, March 28-29 at the New Orleans & Southern Yacht Clubs. Myeloma Awareness Month Educational Teleconference – The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is holding free teleconferences each Friday in March as part of the IMF Myeloma Awareness Month. On March 13, the seminar topic will be an update from the XII International Myeloma Workshop given from the nursing perspective. The one hour teleconference will be led by Beth Faiman, RN, a member of the IMF Nurse Leadership Board, and begins at 4 p.m. PT, 7 p.m. ET. No registration is required. Genetic Counseling: A Conversation – On March 14, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), in partnership with Fighting Chance and the South Fork Breast Health Coalition, will present this free educational seminar in Southampton, NY. Dr. Todd Zimmerman from the University of Chicago will be speaking about multiple myeloma, with a focus on the safety and effectiveness of current treatments. Seventeenth Annual Diamond Ball On February 28, the Western New York & Finger Lakes Chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will sponsor its premier black tie gala, the Diamond Ball, at Samuel’s Grande Manor in Williamsville, NY. The event’s name stems from the tradition that each guest at the event receives a pouch containing a genuine gemstone, with one guest receiving a one-carat diamond.
