Miles for Myeloma - This past weekend, Dr. Rafat Abonour, a physician at Indiana University Cancer Center, and six other participants ran and cycled over one hundred miles and raised $300,000 for multiple myeloma. In the last four years, Dr. Abonour has raised a total of $1 million. The annual event, Miles for Myeloma, started in 2005 and funds research of multiple myeloma at Indiana University.

Calabasas Classic Charity Run - On November 9, the Talbert Family Foundation is hosting its annual Calabasas Classic charity run. The funds raised will provide financial support to families affected by cancer and other life-threatening illnesses. With over 1,200 registered runners, the foundation hopes to bring in $50,000. Multiple Myeloma Patient Spearheads Cluster Study - Lorraine Colabella, a former resident of Lyndhurst, New Jersey who was diagnosed with multiple myeloma five years ago, is leading a campaign to find out if a cancer cluster exists at the former site of Penick Corporation. Health concerns voiced by the residents of Lyndhurst have lead to a formal investigation to find out if there is contamination where the pharmaceuticals manufacturer once stood. The most probable cause of contamination is a chemical spill that occurred in 1980. Although the site was cleaned up under the Industrial Site Recovery Act, 1989 air quality tests showed that the carcinogen levels were high.
