The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) and Women’s Running magazine will hold a women’s half marathon in St. Petersburg, FL, during the weekend of November 21-22.

The event, titled Women's Running St. Pete Half Marathon to benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society, is expected to draw women from all over the country.

Participants can either train to run or walk through LLS’s Team in Training (TNT), the world’s first and largest charity sports training program. Through TNT, participants receive four or five months of training with certified coaches, …

The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation (MMRF) has been chosen as the official charity of the first Rite Aid Cleveland 5K. The race will take place on May 16 and will begin at 8:30 a.m. at the Cleveland Convention Center.

The Rite Aid Cleveland 5K is an addition to the Cleveland Marathon weekend of events.  The Cleveland Marathon and Half Marathon will be held on the following day, May 17.

Milestones In Myeloma Therapy: An Update From The American Society Of Hematology (ASH) Annual Meeting – This free teleconference will be held on February 3 from 1 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. EST. The discussion, led by Robert Z. Orlowski, MD, PhD, will focus on new treatments and research presented at the ASH annual meeting. He will also discuss the role of clinical trials and drug therapies in advancing myeloma treatment and quality of life concerns. Questions are welcome throughout the event. Portland Fundraising Clinic – This clinic, presented by the LLS, will take place on February 3 at the Regence BCBS in the Three Sisters Conference Room in Portland. An Evening With Colt Brennan – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society of Hawaii is hosting this benefit fundraiser on February 3 in Honolulu. Colt Brennan, a former Warrior quarterback, will give the opening speech at 6 p.m. Former University of Hawaii (UH) receiver Davone Bess and current UH coach Greg McMackin will also be in attendance. The event will last until 9 p.m. and will include a silent auction, live auction, and other entertainment. All proceeds benefit the LLS. Fraternity Raises $75,000 To Benefit The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society – At the University of Georgia last semester, the Beta chapter of Sigma Alpha Epsilon (SAE) raised $75,000 in only three months for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS). They beat last year's total of $59,365 and surpassed this year's goal of $65,000. The freshmen members sought donations from friends, family, and businesses. Thirty-five members took part in the “Light the Night Walk” in Athens, GA, a nationwide LLS fundraising event. In 1971, a former SAE president passed away from leukemia. Since then, the fraternity has raised over $1 million to support the mission of the LLS to cure all blood cancers. What Cancer Survivors Should Know About Health Insurance And Employment Rights – The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), together with the Fox Chase Virtua Health Cancer Program, is hosting this free workshop about workplace rights after being diagnosed with cancer. The panel of experts will also address issues involving private and federal insurance, social security, and disability. The program will be held at the Virtua Memorial Hospital Conference Center in Mt. Holly, NJ, on January 22, 2009. Current Trends In Leukemia, Lymphoma, And Myeloma – Physicians’ Education Resource and the Lurie Cancer Center will be holding a symposium at the Robert H. Lurie Medical Research Center Baldwin Auditorium in Chicago on January 16, 2009. The symposium will update cancer treatment providers on information presented during hematology conferences in 2008. Julia Walls Kiefer Marrow Donor Project – The Kiwanis Club of Winston-Salem, NC, is hosting a drive to find potential bone-marrow donors for myeloma patient Julia Kiefer and others who are in need of a transplant. The drive will be held on January 17, 2009, from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at College Park Baptist Church. The cheek swab test that determines whether a person is a potential donor costs $52, but funds are available to help anyone who cannot afford the test. Diana Krall will host a fundraiser for blood cancer patients on February 16, 2009. Diana will be joined by special guests Elton John, Diana’s husband Elvis Costello, and James Taylor at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. This invitation-only charity benefit will raise funds for the Vancouver General Hospital and University of British Columbia Hospital Foundation.  These funds will be used towards bettering patient care and innovative research at British Colombia’s Leukemia and Bone Marrow Transplant Program.
