Boston Marathon — Registration for the 2009 Boston Marathon on April 20 has already closed, but those who are interested in racing or sponsoring entries for multiple myeloma research may attain a charity entry through the MMRF or the IMF. The MMRF requires an online application and a fundraising minimum of $5000. The IMF is sponsoring the Marathon for Mom, which is asking for donations in honor of Gail Pollard, a patient who was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma. The Road To Discovery: Emerging Therapies In Blood Cancers — The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will host a free patient education program on April 21 from 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m. at The Nebraska Medical Center in Omaha, NE. The program will discuss how new drugs are discovered, researched, and approved for treatment; recent and ongoing advances in the treatment of blood cancers; and participation in clinical trials as a possible treatment option. The Multiple Myeloma Research Foundation’s (MMRF) Marathon and Half Marathon Program has just announced a charity partnership with the New York Road Runners that will provide the MMRF with 100 guaranteed entries for the 2009 ING New York City Marathon on November 1 and 100 entries for the NYC Half Marathon on August 30.
Runners interested in participating in either of these popular NYC events as charity runners will have an opportunity to secure their entry now, and bypass the ‘lottery’ process that takes place in June, when more than 100,000 hopeful …

Diamonds & Champions – On April 2, the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) will be hosting this benefit at the Omaha Hilton Hotel in Omaha, NE from 6:30 p.m. till 10 p.m. The event includes a reception, dinner, and presentation. Dress Down Day – The Northern New Jersey chapter of the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is asking that on April 3 businesses allow their workers to dress down in honor of blood cancer patients in Northern New Jersey. Participants are requested to donate a minimum of $10. Donations will go towards blood cancer research, patient care, and educational programs supported by the LLS. Ft. Lauderdale Regional Community Workshop – On April 11, the International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is holding an informational workshop on multiple myeloma at the Memorial Hospital West in Pembroke Pines, FL. The workshop begins at 9 a.m. and ends at noon. Information on diagnosis, relapse, side effects of treatment, and the importance of clinical trials will be discussed by specialists in myeloma. 3rd Annual Tom Burke 3-On-3 Basketball Games – On April 4, the Burke family is hosting this tournament to benefit the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) in memory of Tom Burke. European Group For Blood And Marrow Transplantation Meetings – From March 28 until April 1, the European Group for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT) will meet in Göteborg, Sweden to discuss current research and treatments involving blood and bone marrow transplantation. The five-day conference includes the 35th meeting of the EBMT, the 25th meeting of the EBMT Nurses Group, and the eighth meeting of the EBMT Data Management Group. Division I Men’s Lacrosse Game — On March 21, two top Division I schools, Siena College and the University of Hartford, will face off in men’s lacrosse at 2:30 p.m. at St. John The Baptist High School in West Islip, NY. Rome Marathon — The Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) is sponsoring a marathon on March 22 in Rome, Italy. The Leukemia Cup Regatta – This annual boating competition has raised funds for the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS) since its inception in 1988. This year there will be 36 boating regattas. Those occurring in March include: Mobile, AL, March 13-15 at the Buccaneer Yacht Club; Mandeville, LA, March 21-22 at the Pontchartrain Yacht Club; Punta Gorda, FL, March 21-22 at the Isles Yacht Club; and New Orleans, LA, March 28-29 at the New Orleans & Southern Yacht Clubs. Myeloma Awareness Month Educational Teleconference – The International Myeloma Foundation (IMF) is holding free teleconferences each Friday in March as part of the IMF Myeloma Awareness Month. On March 13, the seminar topic will be an update from the XII International Myeloma Workshop given from the nursing perspective. Jeans And Jewels Gala – This event, which will be held February 14, will focus on raising awareness and funding for research to cure multiple myeloma.
