Cancer Treatment Centers of America at Eastern Regional Medical Center Expands its Stem Cell Transplant & Cell Therapy Program, Draws Patients from Across the Northeast

Philadelphia (Press Release) - Cancer Treatment Centers of America (CTCA) at Eastern Regional Medical Center proudly opened its new stem cell transplant center to patients with hematologic malignancies today. The 17,000 square foot center includes eight state-of-the-art inpatient rooms, along with a dedicated infusion suite and apheresis and stem cell collection unit.

Under the leadership of highly regarded hematologist-oncologists Dr. Pamela Crilley and Dr. David Topolsky, the expanded Stem Cell Transplant and Cell Therapy Program will provide stem cell transplantation therapies and other treatments for patients with hematologic malignancies such as acute and chronic leukemias, myelodysplastic syndromes (MDS), Hodgkin's and non-Hodgkin's lymphomas and multiple myeloma.

"Patients with complicated blood cancers require a whole-person approach to treatment. Not only are they facing very aggressive treatments, but they may often spend quite some time in the hospital, leading to mental and emotional challenges as well," said Chief of Medical Oncology Dr. Crilley. "Our new unit is not only a beautiful space with advanced technologies, but it was built so that we can address every important need and concern that arises during our patients' time at the hospital."

When fighting hematologic malignancies at CTCA, patients and their loved ones are surrounded by a Patient Empowered Care® team that provides compassionate and unwavering support, while focusing on what is most important: patients' recovery and quality of life. Each Patient Empowered Care team includes a hematologist/BMT physician, dietitian, naturopathic oncology provider, nurse care manager and transplant coordinator.

Treatments are combined with integrative therapies to help manage patients' pain and keep them and their families strong throughout their journey. Mental, emotional and spiritual support opportunities are also available as well as guidance for stress management and emotional coping skills. In addition, because CTCA treats patients from across the country, the hospital is well situated to assist with travel and accommodation arrangements.

"By offering patients the most advanced treatment options available to care for their complex blood cancers, CTCA in Philadelphia continues to deliver on our promise to provide a center for healing and hope to all those facing cancer and their loved ones," said President and CEO of CTCA in Philadelphia John McNeil. "Our unique, integrated model of care allows us to treat patients in a personalized way. We are excited to extend this level of care to even more patients."

In addition to the new stem cell unit, Cancer Treatment Center of America in Philadelphia has several additional construction projects underway. Seven operating rooms and a new pharmacy, as well as additions to the laboratory, chemotherapy infusion unit and clinic will also be completed later this year.
