Hi,
I am new to the Beacon. I was just diagnosed last week with multiple myeloma.
When I know more about the treatment I will be receiving, I will post. For right now, I had a shot of something on Thursday along with a handful of steroids. Just got a call from my pharmacy today that said my insurance is covering the Revlimid, so it will be here tomorrow. I think my oncologist told me there are three drugs I will be taking along with a baby aspirin to control blood clots.
This whole experience is such a shock to me. I have been in such great shape my entire life that I can't believe this. It started with back pain on the 5th of November. I have tweaked my back before while working, and after a week or so it would feel better. This time it kept feeling worse. After 3 weeks of increased pain and lack of mobility, I visited my family doctor.
To make a long story short, I was told I had a compression fracture in my L1 vertebra, which because I was so healthy and shouldn't have this at my age, led them to blood tests and the multiple myeloma diagnosis.
I am on the surgery schedule to have my back fixed by kyphoplasty next week. I had a bone screening done along with a couple MRI's and my other bones are sound. I also have no kidney issues, blood clots etc. Just high protein level(s).
I'm not sure of all the test results, but will post them also when I copy them off another web page.
Best wishes and good luck to my multiple myeloma brothers and sisters and happy holidays.
Love Dan

Re: Here We Go!
Sorry to hear of your diagnosis Dan. I also recently was diagnosed in November of 2016. Like you, I was very surprised, as I have always considered myself to be very fit. I have been a runner and cyclist for many years and am slim built.
I am encourage by reading through the forum by the positive support and advice provided. I think one's mental attitude and continued attention to living as healthy and active as one can safely manage, combined with knowledge gained on the subject of multiple myeloma, is key to getting on with living.
Look forward to hearing from you in the future.

I'm sorry you both have to find this forum, but so glad you are aware of it. It has been invaluable as I help my husband manage his myeloma. The people on this forum are so knowledgeable and willing to help provide perspective. When I encounter new situations, I search the forum to learn from prior posts.
All the best. There is a lot of great things going on in myeloma, so I am very hopeful.
