WTC Victim Compensation Fund - experiences?

Has any multiple myeloma patient who was a New York City resident at the time of the 9/11 attacks and qualifies for the World Trade Center Victim Compensation Fund had any experience with filling out the paperwork and how the system works / pays out?

I used a law firm, which takes 10%...I was awarded 250,000 dollars.
