SPEP and immunofixation blood tests

by dianaiad on Tue May 20, 2014 7:46 pm

What is the 'standard of care' with this? That is, how often should an SPEP be repeated, especially for someone with high risk multiple myeloma?

Should it be monthly, bi-monthly, every three months? What's the norm for this?

My SPEP test, to determine 'M' proteins, is repeated before every time I have an appointment with my oncologist. So a few years ago, when i was taking Revlimid and it had to be renewed monthly, it was once a month, but now it is only once every three months.

That is one of the main tests used to determine the state of my myeloma's activity. The other main test, IMO, is the serum free light chain test (sFLC).

Hope that helps!

I was on a 3 month schedule until I started a relapse and I'm now on monthly, likely for the Revlimid.
My relapse was gradual enough that the 3 month interval wasn't a problem.
I was on a 2 month schedule for about 10 months immediately after my SCT.
