LDH levels during treatment

by Perseverance on Thu Dec 16, 2010 12:21 am

Dr. McCarthy,

At diagnosis, LDH was 126. But, after achieving a nCR from induction and an sCR from SCT, the LDH level was 220. Is this something to be concerned about?

Thank you

HI Perserverance.
Assuming the LDH of 126 was normal, it is not surprising that the LDH could rise a bit after therapy. If it is still within normal limits then this would be fine. If it is above normal, would want to see if it decreases over time which I woul expect as the disease has responded well to induction and stem cell transplant. Sometimes people have elevated LDH levels soon after stem cell transplant especially after growth factor use (Granulocyte Colony Stimulating Factor or Granulocyte Macrophage Colony Stimulating Factor). I recommend discussing this with your doctor at your next visit.
