OK to have Kyprolis & Zometa in same treatment session?

by Marge on Fri May 17, 2013 3:02 am

Is it OK to have Kyprolis, dex (small amount), and Zometa given in the same treatment session, or is there any reason that the Zometa really should be given separately? If I'm recalling correctly, when my husband (now 78) started treatment in early 2008, with Velcade, his periodic Zometa was given at a separate session. More recently, in 2012, when he was on Revlimid + Velcade (because each taken separately finally failed), the Zometa was given in the same session as the Velcade. He's now in his 3rd Kyprolis cycle, and his monthly Zometa is given on a Kyprolis treatment day. I'm wondering whether the two interact in any way (beneficially or negatively) or whether this has even been investigated. I'd be interested in a medical opinion as well as hearing about how other people's treatments with these drugs is scheduled.

I was getting Kyprolis, Revlimid, and Dexamethesone for 28 cycles, and received Zometa the first week of each cycle in the same session as I received the Kyprolis and Dexamethasone. Revlimid was also taken the same day, but I had to wait at least four hours after the Kyprolis to take it.
