Treatment decision

Hello. My name is Harris. My mother is 74 yeears old and she was diagnosed with multiple myeloma on March 2012. She had 3 chemos of VRD-PACE but because of her age the PACE we reduced it at 75%. And she went into a sCR. After that we decided to watch her and she stayed out of treatment till February 2013 when she had a transplant. Before the transplant she had MRD.

If after the transplant, she has MRD negative should we continue with the second transplant, consolidation or go straight to the maintenance phase? Because of my mother cytogenetics(del17p and del13) i was thinking that despite the result to try from now on to treat her as agressive as possible at her age.

Her doctor says that if she stayed on remission after so long time out of treatment the del17 will not play a role on the outcome and after a tandem transplant he expects her to be in remission for many years. What do you think? Also the strange think for me is that he believes that is possitive that she is so much time out of treatment because she can now be treated as agressive as possible.

Take care and good luck to all of us
Harris
