For "Sister in Law" Myeloma / Amyloidosis

by Kate on Tue Mar 26, 2013 6:46 pm

Hi Sister in Law, please excuse the personal topic line...

but you said you had such trouble finding your own postings and replies under the thread "Myeloma/Amyloidosis. Also, I can't send a private message as you are not a registered member. Maybe, you are stopping by occasionally anyway.

In June 2012 you wrote: ......

Could you please tell me -- if you remember -- what her dosage was -- how many mg of each and how many days etc. she took it ?

For amyloidosis I use Velcade 1.3 mg/m2 either IV or subcutaneous weekly with dexamethasone 20-40 mg weekly on the day of Velcade depending upon fluid retention risks (i.e. heart involvement of amyloid or kidney dysfunction with loss of albumin). There is very reasonable data to support the use of alkylating agents in combination with Velcade and dex. Melphalan or cytoxan are appropriate choices depending upon stem cell transplant candidate or not.

Dr. Valent, thank you for your reply.

The reason I was interested in the "sister in law" protocol is that my onco came up with something similar when I asked for low-dose chemo, albeit 2 weeks on 1 week off. I don't have Amyloidosis that I know of, but someone mentioned purple around the eyes could be an indicator, and that I have occasionally.

I posted my protocol/dosage questions at:
