Prednisone really worried

by RagtopSL on Tue Mar 26, 2013 2:53 pm

I am just getting over have a slight pnemonia and I am worried that one of my medication is making me feel bad now. It started a little over 2 weeks ago. Went to my pulminologist because I thought I hand bronchitis after examining me he put me on Zpac and prednisone 3 days @ 40 mg and three days @ 20 mg. After three days I was feeling worst, went back to the doctor and after further exam plus a chest X-ray he told me I had a slight pnemonia and put me on Doxycycline 100 mg twice a day for 7 days and 6 days of prednisone 20 mg per day. On the 7th day I went for a recheck and he told me it looked like the pnemonia had cleared up and that I should continue the 20 mg prednisone for another 7 days. After 3 more days on the prednisone I was not feeling well so I stopped taking it. It has been 3 days since I stopped taking the prednisone and I am not feeling well I feel shaky no energy and not a lot of strength. I have been reading on the Internet that stopping prednisone can create some health issues. Now I am worried that the prednisone may have harmed me. Please help I am worried.

I've taken prednisone for asthma flare ups. Now for multiple myeloma. But, I was always told to wean off it. If you start with 40mg. on day one then day 2 should be 30. And so on until you're finished. Never stop suddenly.

Agree with Stan. You may just need to be weaned off the prednisone slower. High doses will shut down your body's ability to make cortisol (which is your endogenous steroid). If you stop the prednisone (exogenous steroid) and your body is not making enough cortisol you can feel the way you do.
