How do you tell is a sct is successful?
My dad just had his sct and is now in his 9th day. Just wondering how and when would you know that the sct is successful? Thanks!

I had my sct 4/27/2011 after 3 months, my flc's were the same as preset. Very upsetting
Then slowly each month better and better. Jan I had blood and Bmb. Less than 1 percent in Bmb, no m spike, Igm normal, iga normal, some myeloma in Igg, I am a iga myeloma, so onc at mayo does not want to see me until April. I am feeling good, treating neuropathy. Don't expect overnight miracles, listen to your onc, and give your body time to heal. Maria

My dad had his ASCT in December. His Onc says that the work up (marrow biopsy + blood labs) 100 days after will provide an idea, but it sometimes takes months after. You'll also see throughout this forum that it still may take months with maintenance chemo to knock the Mspike down.
Based on where your dad is in the process, he's just now getting close to the point when the high dose chemo effects will show the most on his blood work.
Basically, it takes lots of time after to truly know. My dad is doing awesome almost 100 days out-we are meeting for a beer & dinner IN PUBLIC , NO MASK this eve
hard to believe just 2 months ago he was sleeping in my spare bedroom fighting as his stem cells were regenerating in his marrow!

Dear Phoebe,
It is very typical to reassess the status of the disease ~3 months from the time of transplant. In certain instances, we take an earlier look. Your dad will get repeat blood work and urine studies as well as a bone marrow biopsy. Between all of these tests, they will be able to determine the degree of response.
Best of luck!

thanks so much for the replies.
the nurse just told me that if dad can maintain his numbers today, he can go home tomorrow. That's really good news and dad is happy. **fingers crossed for tomorrow's lab results**
