Questions and discussion about monoclonal gammopathy of undetermined significance (i.e., diagnosis, risk of progression, living with the disease, etc.)

My M-spike is up; I think my MGUS has progressed

by Truthlover on Sun Jul 22, 2018 10:27 pm

My M-spike went from 0.4 to 1.5 g/dl (4 to 15 g/l). My brother said nine years ago when his M-spike was 1.7 g/dL he got a stem cell transplant. That was the only criteria that he thinks they went by back then. My diagnosis is still MGUS even though I can barely walk, for the abnormal cells have damaged so many of my nerves (I posted in May about my diagnosis and symptoms). I receive IVIG infusions 5 days a month. I don't think this is undetermined significance anymore.

Hello Truthlover, I am sorry to hear that your M-spike has progressed up to a level where treatment could be considered. I wondered if you are seeing a myeloma specialist? There are other tests to be done for a myeloma patient to get a diagnosis including serum free light chain, scans of bones to see if there is any damage to them (lesions), other blood tests to check for anemia and kidney damage, and a bone marrow biopsy, and urine testing. I think it would benefit you to see a specialist, and if you indicate where you live, others in the area could help you with that.
