reoccuring plasmacytomas
Has anyone expereinced a reoccurance of plasmacytomas which have been previously radiated or new plasmacytomas elsewhere? This may be happening for me and I would benefit from learning more about the experience that others have had. Does anyone know a myeloma specialist focusing on plasmacytomas? Thanks!

Re: reoccuring plasmacytomas
Hi Karen,
A lot of the U.S.-based research on plasmacytomas is coming out of MD Anderson and the Mayo Clinic.
MD Anderson recommended the following three plasmacytoma specialists:
Mayo Clinic recommended the following plasmacytoma specialist:
If you're looking for a specialist closer to home, let us know what region you are looking in and we'll see if we can make any other recommendations.

Thanks, it is great to have more resources. I'm in Seattle so if there are folks closer to home, that would be really helpful to know.

Hi Karen,
Unfortunately, the Fred Hutchinson Cancer Research Center and the Seattle Cancer Care Alliance do not have any myeloma specialists focusing on plasmacytomas.

Re: reoccuring plasmacytomas
Hi,
I was recently diagnosed with a SOFT tissue, thank heavens plasmacytoma and it was surgically removed and then treated with 25 days of lovely radiation. It was on my face in the nostril and I wonder if the odds are better for me, NOT to get multiple myeloma ever... Anyone know?
God bless you all!

DEBBIE ROBINS
Re: reoccuring plasmacytomas
Hi,
I was asked to respond to the post of Debbie Robins. Soft tissue plasmacytomas may not be followed by the development of multiple myeloma in the absence of other lesions. Thus, patients with isolated or solitary plasmacytomas are treated usually with radiation. They should be followed by intermittent blood and urine testing to determine if a monoclonal protein is present and increasing over time. Other testing of the bone marrow or radiographic tests would be performed if there was a clinical suspicion of multiple myeloma development. Thus, not every isolated plasmacytoma patient develops multiple myeloma but requires routine followup and testing to make sure that multiple myeloma is not developing.
