Stem cell transplants, eyebrows, and eye lashes

by Henriette on Wed Sep 16, 2020 8:45 pm

I am considering a stem cell transplant.

I was told that my hair will fall out. I wondered, however, if my eyebrows and eyelashes will fall out too.

If the stem cell transplant can cause eyebrows and eyelashes to fall out, will they grow back?

Hello Henriette,

Somehow losing my hair loomed large in my mind, too, before my stem cell transplant back in 2010. I think it depends on the individual as to whether you lose your eyebrows and lashes. Mine did not fall out, but I did meet other patients whose did. You can use brow pencils for the eyebrows to look more normal if that happens though (not sure about the lashes).

Best of luck,
Nancy

I did tandem transplants 100 days apart and I did not lose my eyebrows or eyelashes.

I did shave my head a week before transplant. I felt I was in control of losing my hair and I could get used to how it looked. Glad I did.

Thank you, Nancy. I thought it probably was an individual matter.

Thank you, Music box lady. I hope I don't lose my brows and lashes. If I do, I hope they come back.
