Im 26 and Had High Calcium, my doctor didn't order it but I decided I should just in case.
Side Question: if you had M-Proteins in your Urine....it'd appear in your blood too right? (or at least that makes sense to me?)
Also....a bence jones protein IS a M-Protein right? (Like whats seen on a M-Spike?)
Anyways here it is? I feel fine otherwise and my CBC's and other stuff (Diff/Metabolic are all normal) besides my calcium which jumps around a bit (could be because of my age)
Protein Electro.,S
Protein, Total, Serum 7.1 g/dL 6.0-8.5 CB
Albumin 4.4 g/dL 3.2-5.6 CB
Alpha-1-Globulin 0.2 g/dL 0.1-0.4 CB
Alpha-2-Globulin 0.5 g/dL 0.4-1.2 CB
Beta Globulin 1.0 g/dL 0.6-1.3 CB
Gamma Globulin 1.0 g/dL 0.5-1.6 CB
M-Spike Not Observed g/dL Not Observed CB
Globulin, Total 2.7 g/dL 2.0-4.5 CB
A/G Ratio 1.6 0.7-2.0 CB
Please note: SPRCS CB
Protein electrophoresis scan will follow via computer, mail, or
courier delivery.
All seem pretty Normal right? Im assuming "NOT OBSERVED" means that they couldn't find any?
My Alpha-2-Globulin seems a little low? but I guess it's still in range and is a small range?.
Should I worry at all?

Re: Lab Results from Protein Electrophoresis
Hello from Seattle,
Based on the information you have it all looks good. The SPEP is normal.
If you have a high calcium you should see an endocrinologist.

I guess I shouldn't worry about Multiple Myeloma based on this? IM assuming 26 is pretty darn young to get it?
Yeah im seeing the Endo about the Calcium, were thinking it's prolly PTH related. But I just wanted to double check to make sure.
Would you mind answering my side question however? Would M-Proteins (such as a the Bence Jones proteins) show up in urine if they Weren't in my blood SPEP?
(As in should I bother getting a Urine Protein analysis?)

Re: Lab Results from Protein Electrophoresis
Some myeloma proteins (light chains) can only be detected with a 24 hour urine for electrophoresis lookig for Bence Jones proteins (light chains) or by drawing a serum free light chain assay. It is possible to have a normal serum protein electrophoresis and still have myeloma. These patients are dignosed with the 24 hour urine test or (more commonly in 2012) with the serum free light chain assay.

Re: Lab Results from Protein Electrophoresis
Ah I see. Well the test was only done based on The Calcium Levels (which have gone back down to normal)
Im assuming people my age don't usually get it (and I have no symptoms + all my CBC's/Panels are normal).
I had a Urine Analysis as well, and it was normal (No proteins detected). Not sure if it's the same type of Urine Analysis (It was just a normal one). But I reckon it seems unlikely based on this information?
It was basically on my own doing that I even got the Protein Electro test done. (Doctor didn't even mention it, I had just seen Multiple Myeleoma listed on a cause of Calcium going up). But since mine seems to be going back down it seems awfully unlikely. (Might've just been a spike of calcium or something).
Anyways thank you!
