Thanks everyone for answering my original question and much much more!
I read the recent Beacon article about how zometa has anti-myeloma properties and extends lives.
Based on this news, I'd appreciate hearing from physicians whether they feel that zometa is better than pamidronate or other bisphosphonates. My dad's currently on pamidronate. Are there circumstances under which pamidronate or other bisphosphonates should be used instead of zometa? Or should we have my dad's treatment changed? Also, how long do you recommend patients stay on bisphosphonates?
I'd also like to hear from patients. Have any of your physicians switched your bisphosphonate or put you back on a bisphosphonate recently (presumably based on this zometa study)? Have any of you been on a bisphosphonate longer than 2 years, and has it caused bad side effects after extended use?
