Natural supplements

by survivormm on Tue Feb 14, 2012 1:08 pm

I was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 10/2010 and since 3/2011, have been in complete remission. I have very few side effects while I continue to take Revlimid and Dex. Here is my question: what supplements are suggested for multiple myeloma survivors? Other than a daily vitamin with extra calcium, I consume flaxseed meal, and that is it. I am interested in any other items I can consume to help me fight the fight. Also, I am interested in curcumin and would like to hear everyone's insights regarding that, including dosages. Thanks everyone!

Hi Joanne,

Welcome to the forum ... and thanks for your question.

I'm sure you will get lots of interesting responses to your inquiry from forum participants.

In the meantime, you may find the following articles and columns that have been published here at the Beacon helpful.

First, the Beacon did a series of articles a while back on nutrition for myeloma patients. Here are the two articles in that series:

https://myelomabeacon.org/news/2010/08/27/guide-to-nutrition-in-multiple-myeloma-part-1-an-introduction/

https://myelomabeacon.org/news/2010/09/02/guide-to-nutrition-in-multiple-myeloma-part-2-supplements/

Second, the Beacon also has published several articles on specific nutritional supplements. Here are most of them:

https://myelomabeacon.org/news/2010/01/11/papayas-papain-and-multiple-myeloma-a-potential-adjunct-therapy-that-requires-further-evaluation/

https://myelomabeacon.org/news/2010/02/17/curcumin-and-multiple-myeloma-preclinical-and-early-clinical-studies-are-promising-still-awaiting-more-clinical-evidence/

https://myelomabeacon.org/news/2009/09/11/red-wine-resveratrol-and-multiple-myeloma-the-evidence-is-promising-but-needs-further-study/

Third, one of our columnists, Pat Killingsworth, wrote a series of four columns on supplements that you may find useful:

https://myelomabeacon.org/headline/2011/01/06/pats-place-can-curcumin-resveratrol-or-other-nutritional-supplements-help-fight-multiple-myeloma/

Finally, you probably will find a number of relevant postings here in the forum by searching the forum (see the "Search all forums" box near the top) for keywords like "supplement", "curcumin", or "alternative".

Good luck!
