Dexamethasone and bitter taste

by Rpihawk on Sun Aug 30, 2015 11:49 am

A minor problem when all things are considered, but when I take my weekly dex dose, I have a very bitter taste for two days that I can't get rid of.

Has anyone else experienced this, and have you found anything that helps?

I've tried ice cream and yogurt, but it still returns.

Yes! I think dexamethasone tastes horribly bitter! It's so gross! But it doesn't last days for me, only hours. The only thing I've found that helps is to take the pills with lots of water so the pills touch my tongue as little as possible. They float down my throat, rather than scraping along my tongue, leaving a nasty trail of bitterness behind!

I agree with taking dex with lots of water and swallowing it as quickly as possible. Your experience sounds extreme.
Lemon drops have worked well for me for following up things that leave a bad taste.

I buy the empty gelatin capsules and put them inside. Time consuming but worth it.

For me dex destroys my taste to the point that nothing tastes right any more. This is a problem because I then have to force myself to eat and to stay hydrated. It takes weeks for taste to return to normal once I stop.
