I have been diagnosed with kappa MGUS which they are still putting everything together on. I had a bone marrow biopsy (BMB) which is consistent with MGUS and the cells stain positive for kappa.
My question is what started all this was an elevated total protein which revealed IgG of 3800. There however is no m-spike. So when I asked the hematologist he said the increase in total protein is a result of a "polyclonal gammopathy". Making me understand that is separate from the monoclonal protein which is the kappa stained cells from my bone marrow and elevated kappa and lambda light chains.
My question is has anyone had a polyclonal gammopathy associated with MGUS or multiple myeloma?
It is truly confusing.
I have had autoimmune stuff in the past. Hypothyroid, morphea (which is like a patch of scleroderma on the skin) (super rare) and weird stuff. Had a bronchial carcinoid removed 12 years ago.
Anyone else have a polyclonal gammopathy while having MGUS or multiple myeloma?

Re: Polyclonal gammopathy with MGUS or multiple myeloma?
Hi Jason,
I have had polyclonal gammopathy several times since I've been in remission from myeloma. My oncologist assures me that this just means that I have had a virus or infection and my body is responding. It does not indicate that my myeloma is back. Still, it makes me a bit nervous!
Good luck to you! Hope your MGUS behaves itself and goes away or stays stable.
