Creatinine levels - changes post transplant?
My husband had significant kidney damage as a result of multiple myeloma. It was the indicator that led us to this diagnosis. At diagnosis, his creatinine was 6.6. He never did dialysis. With treatment, it went down to 4.0 on average. Post transplant, it has gradually gone done each day to now 3.5, The nephrologists have stated that a reduction in creatinine/increased kidney function is not likely. However, its happening...anyone else have experience with this?

Re: Creatinine levels - changes post transplant?
Hello LadyLib,
Kidney problems are very common with mutliple myeloma. Your husband has benefitted from treatment in that his creatinine has improved significantly. After several months of treatment and a stem cell transplant I am sorry to say that it is very unlikely that the creatinine will improve further. For now everything that can be done to protect his kidney from further damage should be pursued (avoiding intravenous contrast agents for CT scans, avoiding certain drugs, maintaining normal blood pressure etc). Hoepfully he will not need dialysis for along time.
