1 Year Post Transplant and 1 Year Bone Marrow

by 2ndChance on Sat Mar 26, 2011 4:41 pm

Hello All,

On April 8 it will be my one year post transplant anniversary and 1 year of remission. I had a bone marrow biopsy yesterday, the last part of all the test I needed for the 1 year checkup. Last week ended with 24 hr urine, 15 tubes of blood, and skeletal xrays. I will go ahead and say that the bone marrow biopsy is probably my least favorite of all the things I have been through in the past 2 years.

I am feeling great most days and then there are days I still feel tired and weak. I have monthly IVIG treatments to help boost my immune system and every 3 months I have Zometa treatments to strengthen my bones. The Zometa is really working per the doctor, she stated that it was much harder to get the bone marrow this time.

I'm still recovering from C dificle, which is caused by antibiotics. It is an over growth of bacteria caused by excessive antibiotic use. It is very painful and ironically its cured by taken antibiotics.

My appetite still has not come back all the way. Since leaving the hospital last April I have lost a total of 100 pounds and of course I have a lot more to go. Due to all the steroids I was on for over a year and the daily fluids, I had gained over 100 pounds. Also last August I had a pancreatic attack and was in the hospital for about 3 1/2 weeks, ultimately had to have my gall bladder out. I didn't have an appetite then either and they would not allow me to leave until I would eat. and of course we all know that hospital food isn't the best.

I will blog again in 2 weeks with the results of all my tests. Prayers and Blessings to all.
