Hello I am new here is my story
This is my story I was in school for nursing and about a 3 month before I graduated I went to the Dr thinking I had a sinus infection my head was so stuffy and i had a lot of pressure in my head they gave me a lot of meds but nothing cleared it up. Then I developed a large lump on my left eyebrow and my eye was swollen and droopy and another lump on my left jaw so they ordered me a CT and when the xray tech told me to wait he had to show them to the DR I knew something was up. They found multiple lesions. so a biopsy of my tumor confirmed my diagoses on Sept 9 2008 the day I had to write my 8 hr National Nursing exam.................I am happy to say I passed the exam and now I am officially a nurse a goal I have worked for and dreamed of for many years. I started with dex for 3 months with my counts going to 0 before the transplant and then I had my transplant (Autologust) on jAN 21,2009 it all went very well I was very sick with vommiting for months after the Melphalan nothing controlled it. My blood has been clear since transplant I havent had another bone marrow biopsy my doctor says if they cant find it in the blood then there is no need......Thank Goodness. I get Pamidronate once a month IV to help strengthen my bones because the multiple myeloma really did a number on them I have a lot of lesions throughout my body the Doctor refered to my bones as swiss cheese and I get a monthly blood test.Oh ya I also forgot to mention the chemo put me into menopause at 40. I am still unable to work due to immunization with working in the hospital and I still get extreme fatigue I also have to be carefull of fractures due to my bones.I have three children 20 ,16 ,14 they are awesome and its been hard on them , but we are all working through it together as a family I also have my husband of 24 yrs he is my rock I am very Blessed to have my family. I have IgD multiple myeloma which seems to be very rare. If i can help anyone through this process please feel free to ask that is what got me through my process so far is the help from my support group or if you just want to chat because I think I can say we are all afraid at some point in our journey.

Theresa, congratulations on passing your nursing exam! You deserve it! It sounds like you have a wonderful family and a positive outlook. Aside from the side effects, I'm glad you have responded well to treatment, and I hope you're feeling back to normal before long.

Congratulations on your remission! I was diagnosed with IgD myeloma 4 months back. I have responded quite well to Velcade+Dex and will be going through the transplant soon. I have been trying to get more information on IgD myeloma but since it is a rare condition, there does not seem to be much information available out there. I was wondering if you can tell me more about IgD myeloma.? I was told that it is more aggressive kind and that the prognosis is not as good as the common IgG myeloma. I would greatly appreciate any light you can shed on this rare cancer.
