I've recently completed my second cycle of the "study drug" daratumumab at the UNC Cancer Hospital in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. This "study" is at 40 cancer centers across the US and consists of 300 to 400 relapsed multiple myeloma patients who have failed other chemos.
Daratumumab is "knocking it out of the park" for me! Not only are my numbers dropping radically, but I am not experiencing ANY of the terrible side effects of other multiple myeloma chemos.
This seems to good to be true! I am praying that daratumumab keeps on working and takes me to remission.

But wait, there's more! And boy, can it catch fish! LOL at your graphics.
That's really great news and personally encouraging to me since I am really hoping that monoclonal antibodies ("mabs") will be the next big short-term breakthrough treatment for multiple myeloma. Please keep us updated on how things progress over time.
BTW, which drug cocktail are you on with the daratumumab?

Mike,
Thank you so much for posting this. I so appreciate this, as my husband is recently diagnosed as smoldering multiiple myeloma and we find out this week if his PET/CT shows lesions (the xrays had some possible issues show up).
Please keep us updated on your progress. Thank you again for giving us hope ...

Great news! I've heard daratumumab shows a lot of promise. It's nice to see a concrete example of success.

Re: Daratumumab (Darzalex) is working for me
I am so happy for you!
My 82-year-old mom is currently in the trial for daratumumab and will stay until the other Emory locations are set up with the drug. After three treatments her numbers have dropped dramatically. Her IgG was 3200 and has dropped to 2080. Kappa and paraprotein have also had a huge decrease.
The bad side is she had to have a metal bar placed in her leg yesterday to support the myeloma damaged hip/thigh bone. I never thought she would see a remission but you never know. This will be a great Thanksgiving and Christmas.

Mike's answers:
1. Yes, daratumumab not only CATCHES FISH when I soak my tackle in it, but when I add daratumumab to my gas tank, my Toyota gets 8 more miles per gallon!
2. There is no "drug cocktail" with the daratumumab. I suppose you were thinking something like daratumumab + Revlimid. Nope. It is just daratumumab + dex.
Update: Now that daratumumab has become FDA approved, this Phase IV drug study I am part of will end immediately. Daratumumab was free in this study, but FDA approved means now my two health insurance plans will need to begin paying for daratumumab.
Hmmmm ... I wonder how much daratumumab will cost? Dara to take a guess?

Hi Mike,
Looks like you're a long time patient. What things were you on before daratumumab?
