Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
Marie,
I'm currently doing a modified version of this right now, DV-ACE, which is Velcade / dex / doxorubicin / cyclophosphamide and etoposide.
They lightened it up because of kidney issues. This is my second round, having done the first one a month ago. The side effects are minimal, low counts obviously and mild nausea and fatigue. I did end up with a neutropenic fever. It took about 3-4 weeks to recover at home, but I was still able to do the laundry, make the bed, little stuff. Then, last week, I had enough energy to walk the dog and some visiting friends.
I am into my 12th yr with multiple myeloma and have used up all the new drugs, so have fewer options left. This treatment is supposed to be a bridge to something, but not sure what till i see my doctor. I am treated in NC at the University of North Carolina.
Good luck

Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
Barb and Joyce, thank you so much for your responses.
My husband was suppose to have his second auto transplant on Tuesday, September 9, but because of the concentration of plasma cells in his bone marrow, his doctors want him to undergo D-PACE first to clean out the bad stuff. He has used up all of the other treatment options as well.
Please know that we are standing with both of you and your families praying for a cure.
Blessings,
Marie

Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
I just started DPACE to lower my plasma cell counts before SCT. I did four cycles of CyBord induction that dropped the cell counts, but the oncologist wants them to be lower before collecting the stem cells. I am getting the fours days of continuous infusion of the five drugs. That will be followed by daily Neupogen injections until my stem cell counts are high enough for collection.
So far, the only notable side effect is fatigue, but I am taking Zofran on a set schedule to control the nausea.
Best wishes, Gary

Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
I have 4 days of V(Velcade) D-PACE as an outpatient starting Monday. The experiences in this thread are helpful, thanks.
I have 15% plasma cells after 6 cycles of RVD. The extra chemo is intended to drive them lower in advance of stem cell collection and then ASCT. I have a mini pharmacy of drugs for the side effects and then more as prophylactics against infection. Happy to post updates on how the treatment goes next week.

Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
Hi Villa fan,
Thanks for sharing your experience. If you wish, you can start a new thread here in the "Treatments & Side Effects" portion of the forum where you can share details of your experience with the VD-PACE regimen. Updates and descriptions of the treatment process, as well as background information on your previous treatments and information on the outcome of the treatment, would definitely be helpful to others looking for VD-PACE information in the future.
The same holds true, by the way, for anyone who wants to share their experience with the D-PACE regimen.
Best of luck with your treatment, Villa fan, and welcome to the forum.

Re: D-PACE - any experiences with the regimen?
I went through one round of VDPACE and got a good response (4 day continual infusion).
6 months later did the same minus the Velcade, and did not get a response at all. I had neuropathy after the first one, but we are not sure if it was caused by the Velcade or by the blood infection that put me in the ICU for 17 days.
