I have been going to City of Hope here in Southern California for collection the last 2 days (January 21 and 22). With the Neupogen and Mozobil shots since Monday, I harvested around 1 million cells, which is way less than the 2.5 that I need for transplant. I am really bummed with all the side effects of these meds.
My doctor told me I should come back in 2 or 3 months, go on Cytoxan (cyclophosphamide), and then harvest and do the transplant right after that. In the meantime, she wants me to stay on Revlimid.
Any encouraging words? Should I stress?

Re: Stem cell harvest failed - should I stress?
Hi there,
I will be interested in the answers from those further along the road than you and I.
I have my collection booked for next Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday, but I have been on 2 daily shots of Neupogen since Wednesday -- so for a full week by collection day.
How long were you on the injections for?
Cheers,
Sharon

Re: Stem cell harvest failed - should I stress?
You may want to search my earlier post "Stem cell collection failed" (December 25, 2014).
I only got 2.4 million cells in December after conditioning with VTD-PACE and two daily doses of 600 Neupogen. I was very discouraged. My team had me wait until 30 days after the chemo regimen stopped, and I did two 12-hour infusions of etoposide followed by daily Neupogen. After 8 days, I had excruciating bone pain, and I collected on day 11 (I got blood and plasma on day 10 in prep for collection).
I got 21.52 million cells in a single collection. I have had a lot of chemo and extensive radiation due to a large plasmacytoma in my sacrum.
Don't give up hope! I will transplant on February 9.

Re: Stem cell harvest failed - should I stress?
Hey EThomas,
I would point out that there is some disagreement among multiple myeloma experts as to whether Revlimid can significantly inhibit the collection of stem cells.
There are a number of articles here at The Myeloma Beacon that discuss that issue in some detail if you care to do a search or two to educate yourself.
Best,
S.
