I posted about a rash that I had during my first treatment of Revlimid and dexamethasone back in February (link to posting). The rash was on my neck and side of my face. Also some on the shoulder area. No itching at all. Aveeno healing lotion and Allegra [fexofenadine] took care of it in about 10 days.
About a week ago I got another rash but it is mostly where my clothes are rubbing, like the waist, collar area and sides. Heat seems to make it worse and spread a little. Tried the Aveeno and Allegra again, but it's not working the same as last time. Again, the same this time, no itching at all.
Just got back from my doctors office and he did a couple of core biopsies so we will see what that shows. I also have my monthly labs in a couple of days. That should also show something.
My oncologist and family doctor don't seem to think its the Revlimid due to it being where my clothes rub. They feel it would be all over and not just isolated to the area wear clothes rub. Although it has spread a little. The rash / welt is starting to go away in some areas and then it just looks like red skin where the rash was.
Anyone have a rash like this without any itching?

Re: Revlimid / dexamethasone rash with no itching
I got the same rash each time I started a cycle of Revlimid. It would show up usually on the 3rd day and last for 4 days. Then it was gone. One time on 25 mg it got so bad that I developed a staff infection in the rash behind my ears (due to the moisture and sweating here in hot Georgia). But I noticed that when my dosage went to maintenance of 15 mg and no missed cycles for any reason, the rash quit showing up. I would miss a cycle due to health issues like double pneumonia, low platelets, etc. But if I stayed on the 21 day cycle and at 15 mg, the rash stayed away.

Re: Revlimid / dexamethasone rash with no itching
Mary Dee,
Thank you for the reply. I forgot to mention the dosage. I take 25 mg for 21 then 7 off. Also dexamethasone 40 mg once per week.
I haven't seen too many posts that have a rash without the itching like mine. I am also wondering if it could be the dexamethasone also. I guess the results from the biopsy will tell. I have had extremely good results from the Revlimid / dex treatments and hope I can continue.
Did you use any lotions or Allegra type products for the rash? I could only imagine with the heat and humidity there in Georgia it must have made matters worse. I noticed that even a warm shower or a warm afternoon seem to make it seem worse.
Also when the rash fades away, the skin stays red for a few days then back to normal. Did your do the same?
Thank You,
Castaway

I have had periodic rashes in my pelvic area while on Revlimid although I cannot say that it was the cause. I have used a prescription cream called triamcinolone acetonide and it works after a few days.

My husband did after about 6 cycles ... mostly legs and feet. Acyclovir twice a day cleared it up. He still maintains that med and probably always will.

Thank you for the input. I have been on Revlimid / dex for about 6 months. Only the second time that I had a rash. I also cant say for sure that it's the Revlimid. From what I have read, dex can also cause a rash. Maybe the biopsy will show something. Or my lab results that I will have on Friday.
I will let my doctor know about the meds that you both have mentioned.
Thank you, Castaway

Re: Revlimid / dexamethasone rash with no itching
I had a rash from Revlimid. I was on same dose / cycle as you. It started in 2nd month and got worse each month. Started on my feet and slowly spread up my body. It would get better during my week off, but not all the way. Made it up to my stomach and chest. Never itched and docs didn't do anything. Went away once I was off the Revlimid.
Was very worrisome but never amounted to anything.

Re: Revlimid / dexamethasone rash with no itching
Just want to thank you all for your input. I started losing the rash about three days before ending my 21 day cycle of Revlimid. Most of the affected areas just turned red after the rash went away, then it all cleared up.
My doctor had a biopsy done and all it really said was that I had an allergic reaction. Possibly from the Revlimid, or possibly from new laundry detergents. So I am back on my 21 day cycle of Revlimid again and my oncologist feels that we just wait and see what happens during this next cycle.

Re: Revlimid / dexamethasone rash with no itching
Just wanted to give an update to my rash situation.
Well, this month I was two days away from the end of my 21-day treatment and overnight the rash appeared at my neck, then within a day it was everywhere that clothes come in contact with the skin. This time was worse than before. Some swelling at the neck / base of the scalp and stomach area. Sweating and cold chills also. The rash only appears where the skin is covered. I wear shorts and t-shirts a lot. No rash in the uncovered areas.
I had a regular appointment scheduled for my family practitioner and I was able to go over the rash with him. He said that the sweating and cold chills are caused by the rash covering the stomach. Heat actually builds up in that area, causing sweats, then you get cold chills. He works with my oncologist, so he will talk with him, but has scheduled an appointment with a skin specialist / dermatologist. It's now 6 days since the rash started and its almost gone.
I am going to talk to my oncologist about the suggested meds of triamcinolone acetonide and acyclovir. Will see what he says.
