Revlimid with curcumin and/or cannabis oil?

by bgmiller80 on Wed Jun 24, 2015 10:48 pm

After relapsing, I have been on 25 mg Revlimid for close to two years. I have been thinking of adding either curcumin and/or one of the cannabis oils discussed in this forum, but am concerned about any potential negative interactions with the Revlimid.

Has anyone had any experience with combining Revlimid with either of these two alternative medicines or have had discussions with their doctor about it?

Thanks,

My oncologist suggested curcumin while I was taking my Revlimid. I had no problems.

How much curcumin do you take with the Revlimid?

Hi,

I have been on 8 grams per day of Doctor's Best (1 gram horse pills) in divided doses for over a year. This was thru induction, suspended for 30 days post stem cell transplant (SCT), and still ongoing.

Currently on 10 mg maintenance of Revlimid with the curcumin dose and no issues. Also, my myeloma doctor is aware and ok with it. My only complaint is unreimbursed cost, but you can order online and save $$.

All the best! BN

Look into the use of metformin and ritonavir. Tthe combination appears to be very effective against myeloma. I am scheduled for an autologous stem cell transplant (ASCT) next month and am considering this combo since Revlimid doesn't appear to be too active in my case.

Have your doctor look up this paper:

S Dalva-Aydemir et al, "Targeting the Metabolic Plasticity of Multiple Myeloma with FDA-Approved Ritonavir and Metformin," Clinical Cancer Research, 21(5) 1161-71 (2014) (abstract)

Good luck.

Thanks for your responses, very helpful.

Coastal Eddy, Have you discussed your alternative approach with your doctor? It would be interesting to hear his response and/if he will prescribe the drugs. Please keep us updated if you go this route. It sounds promising.

Thanks,

I posted more about metformin and ritonavir in this separate forum discussion:
